As much as we all hate to admit it, our test automation efforts are struggling. Coverage is dropping. Bugs are escaping to production. Our apps are visually complex, growing rapidly, delivered continuously, and changing constantly – so much so that our functional framework is now bloated, broken, and unable to keep up with Agile and CI-CD release best practices.

No wonder that in our latest State of Visual Testing research, the majority of companies surveyed reported that their CI-CD and automation processes are not helping them to successfully compete in today’s fast-paced ecosystem, and are not effective in ensuring software quality in a scalable and robust way.

But what about those elite testing teams that got it right? What’s their secret? Can we copy what they did, instead of setting ourselves to fail?

Watch this on-demand session, and learn how the 10% of the world’s most innovative testing teams have reinvented their test automation to support a fully automated CI-CD process, and guaranteed their company’s digital transformation was a success.

Watch this webinar to learn:

  • Why the majority of test automation efforts are falling behind
  • How your QA and testing efforts compare to these elite teams — via live polling results
  • 4 modern techniques that the top 10% of testing teams globally are doing every day, and that you can do too

The future of software testing is autonomy: creating programs that autonomously test applications. So should you fear for your future, or be excited by the opportunities?

Watch this special end-of-year session with Gil Tayar, and learn if AI in software testing is something to look forward to: will it make software testers better? Or obsolete?

In this webinar, Sr. Architect Gil Tayar discusses the future of software testing in light of recent major advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), and how testers should manage their careers while navigating this quickly-evolving ecosystem.

Autonomous cars were a Sci-Fi dream not 10 years ago. A computer driving a car? No way. But it did happen, and is happening. And if scientists do it for a complicated task such as driving, can they do it for automated regression testing?

Gil Tayar explores what is being done in the field today, but also speculates about the future: he will introduce the 6 levels of autonomous testing, and try and figure out what kind of help current AI techniques can bring to automated testing.

Key takeaways:

  • How autonomous driving works
  • 5 levels of autonomous driving
  • How AI works today to assist you in testing your app
  • 6 levels of AI in automated testing
  • Dreaming about the long-term

Spot the Difference - with Applitools Eyes

Every morning, just before we leave our house, my seven-year-old daughter and I love to spend a few minutes playing the spot-it game located on the last page of our local newspaper. She always spots all the differences before me, and it makes her day knowing that she won. (Plus it makes my day seeing her glow, knowing that her day started on the right foot.)

The Experiment Begins

Spot The Difference
Spot The Difference (credit: http://padailypost.com)

This morning I wanted to try something different and run a quick experiment so before we started to play I took a picture of the game with my phone and uploaded both pictures of the game to Applitools Eyes, an AI-powered Visual UI Testing tool that reports differences that are perceptible to users. Within a couple of seconds, Eyes was done while my daughter was still trying to spot the last two differences. Obviously, I didn’t let my experiment spoil the game for her. But I was amazed to see (yet again) how fast and accurate the Applitools AI Visual Testing tool is.

How does Applitools Eyes work? By emulating the human eye and brain, the AI-powered Visual UI Testing technology only reports differences that are perceptible to users and reliably ignore invisible rendering, size and position differences. The algorithms can instantly validate entire application pages, detect layout issues, and process the most complex and dynamic pages.

Now enough of that mumbo-jumbo sales pitch. Why don’t you try it yourself?

Challenge: 1 minute to spot the differences

Spot The Difference
(credit: http://padailypost.com)

When you’re done simply Comment below if you found at least 6 differences (A.K.A Hall of Fame)

Or

Like if you didn’t spot them all (No judgment;-) )

Spoiler Alert

The solution (by Applitools Eyes) is right below this line so no cheating, don’t peek.

Spot the Difference - with Applitools Eyes
Spot the Difference – with Applitools Eyes

Now let me ask you this: do you think your QA team can manually (or automatically) validate hundreds of pages in your app or website and detect visual defects between different product releases of your product? Across all operating systems and their versions? Across all browsers and their versions? Across all viewports? Across all your customers’ languages?

If you are releasing product updates frequently you probably need to add Visual UI Testing with Applitools to your release pipeline.

Want to see Applitools in action? Ping me and I’ll be happy to schedule a 1:1 with you to give you a tour of our product and see how we can help you deliver a better product to your customers.

SD Times 100 Awards

Award program recognizes the leaders in the software development space, and this year, Applitools brings visual UI testing to the community.

SD Times 100 Awards

Recently, SD Times, the leading monthly magazine for Software and Development Managers, DevOps teams, Test & QA professionals and CIO’s announced their annual SD Times 100 awards, and Applitools was named a “Best in Show” for the software testing category.

We spoke to David Rubinstein, editor of SD Times, back in February about the most recent updates to Applitools Eyes and the introduction of Application Visual Management (AVM), and then again in April, once we closed our latest funding round. It has been a pleasure to work with the SD Times team and we always appreciate the opportunity to share our insights for what lies ahead in the ever-exciting world of software development.

We’d like to give a special shout out to the other innovative companies recognized in the testing category: Eggplant, Mobile Labs, Parasoft, Perfecto, Rainforest QA, Test IO and Tricentis.

Want to learn more about Application Visual Management (AVM)? Check out our whitepaper, “Automate Visual UI Testing In Just 5 Lines of Code: The Rise of Application Visual Management

Background on the SD Times 100

According to the editors of SD Times, they identified the industry’s top leaders, innovators and influencers, and broke them out into 10 separate industry segments. Some companies lead in one category, others in more than one. In each category, one company has been spotlighted as a star deserving of special notice.

When choosing the SD Times 100, the editors carefully considered each company’s offerings and reputation. They also listened for the “buzz”— how much attention and conversation we’ve heard around the company and its products and technologies — as a sign of leadership within the industry.

The SD Times 100 judges looked for companies that have determined a direction that developers followed. Did the company set the industry agenda? Did its products and services advance the software development art? Were its competitors nervously tracking its moves? Were programmers anxiously awaiting its developments? Those qualities mark a leader.

Subjective? Of course. But leadership and innovation can’t be measured by stock valuations or analyst reports. The SD Times 100 represents what we believe to be the best of the best…

We felt an immense sense of pride being included in the SD Times 100 for the first time. Looking back on where Applitools started to where we are now, none of it would be possible without the hard work, dedication and incredible tenacity of our employees, partners and most importantly – our customers. What we’ve seen growing at our organization over the past few years is nothing short of amazing, and to have this independent and well-respected third-party look at what we’ve accomplished and say, “That’s award-worthy,” — well, that really means something.

During the months leading up to today’s announcement, Red Herring reviewed over 1,200 companies in the telecommunications, security, cloud, software, hardware, biotech, mobile and other industries that completed their submissions to qualify for the award.

As a finalist for the award, our CEO and Co-Founder Gil Sever will present our approach to helping customers create visually perfect digital experiences through AI powered visual UI testing and monitoring at the Red Herring North America Forum in Marina Del Rey on June 18-20, 2018. Shortly thereafter, the Top 100 winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on the evening of June 20.

The Red Herring process is robust and does an excellent job of cutting through the “hype” of many companies and industries. This is why it is such a prestigious award. Their editorial team selects the most innovative companies from a pool of hundreds from across North America. The nominees are evaluated on 20 main quantitative and qualitative criterion, which include disruptive impact, market footprint, proof of concept, financial performance, technology innovation, social value, quality of management, execution of strategy, and integration into their respective industries. This unique assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of a company, which allows Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument for and discovering and advocating the greatest business opportunities in the industry.

“This year was rewarding, beyond all expectations,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “There are many great companies generating really innovative and disruptive products in North America. We had a very difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists. Applitools shows great promise and therefore deserves to be among the finalists. Now we’re faced with the difficult task of selecting the Top 100 winners of Red Herring North America. We know that the 2018 crop will grow into some amazing companies that are sure to make an impact.”

We are honored to have made it this far in the process, and look forward to hearing about the final winners next week. We will keep you posted!

Based on over a year of research, Daniel Puterman — Applitools’ R&D Director — and his team submitted a major pull request to Appium, adding capabilities for both iOS and Android (which is available in Appium version 1.8, released recently).

During the past year, they learned a lot about Appium’s structure, drivers, architecture, and the integration with the underlying automation environments.
In this talk, Daniel takes a deep-dive into the Appium code — specifically the BaseDriver and its derivatives, ios-driver and android-uiautomator2-driver — and demonstrates how to add new, multi-platform capabilities.

Daniel starts off with an overview of Appium’s structure, and continues with a deep inspection of the various plugin points which allow adding features to the different platforms.
